Regular Preventative Maintenance

Regular Preventative Maintenance

Regular Preventative Maintenance

Something we speak of often here is preventative maintenance. The term “preventative maintenance” may seem over used...until you have a break down. It may also prevent some very expensive repairs. By bringing your vehicle to One Stop Automotive for regular service, where we do regular inspections, we can help you avoid these costly repairs. Dont delay coming to our shop if you notice any shaking, odd smells, smoke, or weird sounds coming from your vehicle. Often times there will not be any physical indication that something is wrong, which is why regular inspections are vital. Having regularly scheduled services performed on your vehicle can help keep it running as designed, and help you from doling out money on big repairs down the road.

One Stop Automotive has been in business for over 4 decades. We value our new, and our loyal, long time customers. We want you to get the most bang for your buck and miles per dollar spent. This is why we speak so often about preventative maintenance. The following are just a few things to consider.

Regular Preventative Maintenance - One Stop Automotive

A very important part of your engine is the timing belt (if equipped). The timing belt keeps the internal componants of your engine timed, to work together. It regulates the pistons and camshaft so that crucial components in your engine don’t bang together (interfere) and cause damage. These are called interference engines for obvious reasons. If the timing belt breaks, internal parts can collide and catastrophic damage usually occurs. This means very expensive repairs and even a replacement of the engine. We, as most reputable shops, recommend replacing the timing belt every 60,000 miles.

Possibly the most often mentioned preventative maintenance subject on our blog would be oil changes. We had a customer in this week who had not had the engine oil changed for 15,000 miles. The oil looked terrible, smelled burnt and was staring to become sludgy. We understand that in todays busy world, it is easy for these simple services to slip someones mind. This is why we have ways to help with scenarios like this one.

Married couples often miss needed services because they think each other is having the oil changes or maintenance done, when in reality neither one is. It is important to keep your engine properly lubricated and running smoothly. Dirty or contaminated oil will prevent the engine form operating properly and create a buildup of sludge and even cause mechanical failure. We recommend that you change your oil changed every 3,000 to 5,000 miles depending on vehicle and oil type.

Batteries are very basic. A battery either works or it doesnt. If your battery should be working like new, but is experiencing trouble starting your vehicle, or holding a charge during use, it could be that your alternator is not charging or the battery is failing. Come in and we will check it for you. The problem may be something as simple as corroded or even loose connection in the battery.

Alignments are very important to the vehicle handling and the life of your expensive tires. Your wheels need to be properly aligned or uneven wear will shorten tire life and can also cause poor ride quality or even a blow out. In this area an alignment is recommended every 6 months and whenever you have new tires installed. We also recommend a tire rotation a 2nd oil change to maximize tire life and maintain a smooth ride and superior handling.
